AOL Permaculture (Art of Living Permaculture) is an ecological and regenerative farming initiative based at the Art of Living International Ashram in Bengaluru, India. It focuses on sustainable living, soil restoration, and food self-sufficiency guided by core permaculture ethics: Earth Care, People Care, and Fair Share.
Key Highlights
Origin & Demonstration Farm: Mentored by practitioner Binay Kumar (often known as the “Man in the Bus”), the initiative originated by transforming a barren, steep hillside at the Bengaluru ashram into a productive, chemical-free food ecosystem using contour swales, agroforestry, and natural soil regeneration.
Core Offerings:
Foundations of Permaculture (Online): A beginner course teaching home gardening, composting, and natural growing principles for urban terraces and balconies.
Permaculture & Beyond / Spirit of the Soil (Residential): A 9-day hands-on immersive program at the ashram farm covering regenerative site design, water harvesting, companion planting, and farm management.
Mission: Bridging modern lifestyles with ecological resilience by providing practical toolkits to shift from exploitative agriculture to living in harmony with natural cycles.
